MASON — In a storybook moment at home on Monday evening, Mason High School Softball Coach Liann Muff captured her 300th career win, defeating previously undefeated Lakota East 11-1 in an early season GMC battle— and one that will undoubtedly go down in school history.

The win sealed a crucial league victory and marked a personal milestone for Muff, who has built one of the most successful softball programs in Ohio across her 15-year tenure.

All 300 victories have come at Mason, where Muff has spent her entire head coaching career since taking over in 2011 from Brian Castner.

Now, just as her team hits its stride this spring, Muff prepares to take her final bow. She announced before the 2025 season that this would be her last year at the helm.

“It’s hard to put into words what this program and these players have meant to me,” said Muff after the game. “This milestone is a reflection of the people I’ve been fortunate to coach alongside — and the players who’ve worn the Mason uniform with pride. I’m incredibly grateful.”

With a current record of 300–89, Muff has led the Comets to 20 or more wins in 11 of her 14 completed seasons, averaging 21 victories per year. But beyond the numbers lies a program built on discipline, character, and community.

Muff’s Legacy by the Numbers:
–4 Greater Miami Conference Titles (2015, 2016, 2017 – co-champions, 2018)
–11 District Championships
–2 Regional Crowns
–2 State Final Four Appearances (2013, 2016)

Her teams have consistently been contenders, earning respect statewide for their competitiveness and composure. But Muff’s impact reaches beyond the diamond. She has mentored generations of student-athletes and built a program that embodies excellence — on and off the field.

As the Comets pursue another postseason run this spring, players, parents, alumni, and fans will have the chance to celebrate not just one of Ohio’s winningest coaches but a leader who helped define what it means to wear the Mason green and white.
