Heckman gets 450th career victory as Hamilton softball coach

HAMILTON — The Hamilton High School softball team got another big win in the GMC, run-ruling Lakota East at home, moving the Big Blue into second in the conference behind Mason.

Entering the game, Emili Schappacher was sitting at 398 strikeouts for her career. Schappacher struck out her first two batters of the game to get to 400 career strikeouts.

Once the game concluded, another big milestone was reached — this one for Coach Heckman. Heckman achieved his 450th career victory as the head coach for Big Blue Softball.

The Blue started the game strong with 3 runs in the first frame, before Lakota East responded with two runs of their own in the top half of the second. The Blue would get another run in the bottom of the second.

In the bottom frame of the third, the Big Blue would bat around, scoring seven runs and gaining a dominant lead over the Thunderhawks. During this frame, Peyton Eversole would knock one over the fence for a home run.

East would stop some of the bleeding in the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot. The Blue would get one run in the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, Alexis Dillard hit a walk-off home run to end the game and rule East 13-3.

Peyton Eversole and Alexis Dillard would finish with three hits each, and both hit home runs for the Blue. Davis, Hoyte, Krause, and Rupp would each secure two hits on the day as well for the Blue.

Schappacher played well as she only gave up 3 runs on 6 hits, with 4 strikeouts, gaining her 8th win of the season, putting her pitching record at 8-1.

The Big Blue (8-3, 6-1 GMC) travel to Oak Hills on Monday, then will have three straight at home, welcoming Mason on Tuesday, Middletown on Wednesday and Lakota West on Thursday.
