HAMILTON — It was a battle of ace pitchers on Friday as the Hamilton High School softball team got its fourth Greater Miami Conference win of the season with a 2-0 victory over rival Fairfield.
The bats were quiet throughout most of the game. Hamilton only had three hits, though two of those were solo round-trippers by Peyton Eversole and Alexis Dillard in the third and sixth innings, respectively. Peyton Eversole got the other hit for the Blue, going 2-for-3.
Adelyn Huey secured Fairfield’s only hit on the day against Big Blue pitcher Emili Schappacher, who had one of the best outings of her career. She gave up just one hit and struck out five batters in her seven innings of work.
Fairfield’s Megan Spence gave up three hits and had five strikeouts, but she gave up those crucial home runs — which proved to be the difference maker.
The Big Blue hosted two out-of-conference games as they faced off against Michigan’s Henry Ford on Saturday in a doubleheader.
Henry Ford was coming into this game off a heartbreaking loss to the Harrison Wildcats in 9 innings, 6-5.
In Game 1, the bats were swinging as the Big Blue combined for four home runs, with Sierra Hoyte hitting two, along with Schappacher and Eversole each having one.
Dillard, Eversole, Hoyte, Said and Schappacher had multiple hits for the Big Blue, along with Campbell and Thieken having a base hit.
The Big Blue would force the game into extras with the score being 9-9, but a massive eighth inning for Henry Ford resulted in four runs, and the Big Blue fell 13-9.
In game two, the bats continued to swing as Schappacher and Eversole both hit for round-trippers. Schappacher, Krause and Eversole also got multiple base hits, and Davis, Dillard, Graham and Rupp also secured base hits.
A four-run rally in the seventh inning by the Big Blue wasn’t enough as the Big Blue fell in the second game, 10-6.
The Big Blue sits with a 6-3 overall and 4-1 GMC record.
