Baseball check-in: Hamilton Big Blue

HAMILTON — The Hamilton High School baseball team has been off to a 4-6 overall, 3-6 Greater Miami Conference start to the season. But the Big Blue have had their share of shining moments.

The Big Blue kicked off their season by getting back to back wins over Edgewood on the road and against Middletown in their home opener. 

In the win over Edgewood, the Big Blue made a big impact. Kaleb Powers went 3 for 5 with a triple and a home run. Tommy Schuster had two hits in the afternoon, both of those being doubles. Along with Baker, Creach, Fields, Payne and Warner all getting hits as well. 

Peyton Davis pitched through 5 innings giving up 8 hits and had 5 strikeouts in the afternoon. The Big Blue captured the 11-7 victory.

In their home opener against the Middletown Middies, both Powers and Payne had a multi-hit game, with Creach, Sams and Schuster all securing a base knock.

Chad Taylor and Landon Ledford combined to have 8 strikeouts and only allowed 5 hits on the day. The Big Blue captured their second win of the season by beating the Middies 15-3.

The Big Blue traveled to Lakota West, as a sixth inning rally carried West to victory over the Big Blue 6-2. Caleb Warner had a huge game as he went 3 for 4 with a double, while Baker had a base knock for the Blue.

The Big Blue traveled to Lefferson Park as they secured the season sweep against the Middies with a 14-2 win. Both Powers and Warner each had two hits on the day, with Baker, Davidson, Eads, Oatis and Schuster all getting a base hit in the game. 

Landon Ledford pitched a complete game for the Blue as he had 4 hits and 6 strikeouts in the game.  

The Big Blue were shut out in 6 on the road at Oak Hills 10-0, with Powers and Sams securing the only base hits on the day. 

The Blue returned home to complete the season series with Lakota West and losing 11-2. The final score though didn’t tell the whole story, entering the seventh inning the score was tied at 2-2.

The Lakota West bats swang away as the Firebirds had a nine-run seventh inning. Powers had three hits and Payne had two hits, with Creach, Sams, Schuster, and Warner all securing a base hit in the game. 

Starting pitcher Synder had an amazing game only giving up 3 hits and had 4 strikeouts for the Blue. 

The next home game the Big Blue would complete the season series with the Highlanders, they were sweeped, losing the home match up 4-1. Schuster was 2 for 3 in the game while Baker, Powers, and Fields all had base hits as well.

Davis and Fields both had good outings on the mound, combining for 3 hits, and 5 strikeouts for the Blue. 

In their most recent game, the Big Blue fell to the defending state champion Comets at home, 6-2. Warner and Schuster both had a multi hit game for the Blue along with Creach, and Sams securing base hits as well.

Hamilton fell again to Mason 10-0 before beating Princeton 6-4 on Thursday to snap a five-game losing streak.

The Blue finish out the week at home Saturday night with a game under the lights against Talawanda.
