GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
5. Ross (2-1)
The Rams, fresh off a 22-3 2025 campaign, are reloading. Ross is 2-1 after dropping a tough four-setter to Wyoming. The Rams feature sophomore Ellie Distler, who leads the Southwestern Buckeye League with 34 kills. Right behind Distler is junior Lizzy Long with 33 kills. Junior Mya Bosse leads the league in assists with 89. Coach Connor Robinson has the Rams humming in his third year, fully ready to defend the 2025 SWBL Southwestern Division crown.
4. Monroe (2-0)
The Hornets are off to a 2-0 start in Joshua Evans’ first year, matching the 2025 squad’s total. Sophomore Caroline Rude is tied with Ross High’s Ellie Distler with 34 kills, leading the SWBL. Rude also leads the SWBL with 15 kills, and freshman Kylee Gronostaj leads the league in digs. The Hornets can take a big step toward a possible league title when they open play with Bellbrook Thursday.
3. Badin (3-0)
The Rams had an uncharacteristic season in 2025, finishing 8-15, but coach Courtney Weinheimer is excited about the Rams this fall. Badin has started 3-0 behind the play of seven seniors anxious to wipe away the frustration of 2025, the first losing season for Badin since 2015. The Rams’ size will dictate the future, led by junior middles Brooklyn Johnson and Addie Pfiester. The Rams have the size and experience, both needed as the Rams navigate the always tough Greater Catholic League COED Division. l
2. Lakota West (3-1)
The Firebirds are off to a good start for coach Ali Hile. West finished 17-6 a year ago but, led by a strong senior class, has its sights set high. Senior Adelyn Twyman leads the Greater Miami Conference with 40 kills and 10 blocks. Senior Ailee Dobrozski and junior Saavni Patel have 56 and 31 digs, respectively, while sophomore Amara Fellows leads the league with 71 assists. The Firebirds host defending state champs Seton on Wednesday.
1. Fenwick (3-0)
A powerhouse program in the state of Ohio, the Falcons are off to a 3-0 start under veteran coach Tyler Conley. The Falcons and reigning state champion McNicholas shared the GCL COED title a year ago, and the two juggernauts play Tuesday. Conley admits this season will be a grind as always.
“Our league will be a battle again. I may be biased, but I think we probably have two of the better teams in the state in our conference in McNick and us and certainly two teams that can stake their claim as one of the top teams in their division in the state.”
Junior Andrea Ptaszkiewicz has 33 kills, and senior Morgan Meiring leads the league with 40 kills. Sophomore Stella Epperson leads the GCL with 13 blocks while senior Emme Moser leads the league with 63 digs. Conley said the expectations are always high at Fenwick.
“We love the 3-0 start. We had two massive wins against great programs in St Ursula and Centerville,” Conley said. “The composure we showed to walk into a hostile environment at St Ursula to open the season and come away with a win was special.”
